Eugene "Gene" Stanley Skowronek, beloved husband, wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and dear friend, passed away and into the arms of the Lord, surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 28, 2012.

Born on November 3, 1927, in Mt. Pleasant, PA., Gene was the son of Stanley Skowronek and Helen (Kurka) Skowronek.

He was preceded in death by his parents; In-Laws; Joseph & Sophia Payson; sister, Martha Ann Kupets, Brother-in-laws; John Kupets & Francis (Dusty) Fabian, and a sister-in-law; Constance (Connie) Fabian.

Gene is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years Betty (Payson) Skowronek. They would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on September 2, 2012. Gene and Betty's relationship was nothing less than remarkable; always by each others side, they were an amazing and loving couple. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted son and daughter, Gene D. Skowronek and wife Cynthia, of Uniontown and Jane E. Boskovitch and husband Nelson of Hopwood. Gene was a wonderful father and excellent role model. He shared a very strong bond with both his children and their families and will be sadly missed.

Gene is also survived by his five grandchildren, Bradford Boskovitch and wife April, Brian Boskovitch and wife Debbie, and Jonathan Boskovitch, all of Uniontown, Jeremy Boskovitch of Columbus, OH., Felicia Skowronek Kettler and husband Craig of Leesburg, VA.; five great-grandchildren, Brycen Boskovitch, Lauren Cottom and Katherine, Benjamin, and Jay Kettler. Gene was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who he loved so much. He was very close and had special bonds with each of them.

Gene is also survived by his brother Robert (Bob) Skowronek and wife Alberta of Connellsville, PA., as well as special nephews & nieces; Joseph (Joe) and Sharon Lillis, Cara Fabian and Curtis Lowery, and a Great Niece, Sophia Lillis in addition to many other nephews & nieces.

Gene graduated from Brownsville High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and the co-owner of Family Grocery, formerly located at S. Mount Vernon Ave. in Uniontown. He began his professional career as an insurance agent with American General and later opened & operated the Skowronek Insurance Agency for Nationwide Insurance on So. Mt. Vernon Ave., in Uniontown for many years until his retirement. He worked in the insurance field for over 35 years when he retired. After retiring Gene has been a beloved employee of the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc. for the past 12 years. Gene was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and a past member of the Pastoral Council. He was also a member of AMVETS Post 103.

Gene loved music especially Polka music. In the late 40's he formed a Polka band with his brother Bob and they performed at many local venues & weddings where he played his bass and violin.

He and his wife Betty loved to travel through the years and they attended many various Polka conventions all over the United States. More recently, in his spare time Gene enjoyed working in his yard and spending time with his family.

Family & Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 from 3-8PM, Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 3-8 PM, and on Thursday, August 2, 2012 until 9:00AM when a eulogy will be said, followed by Prayers of Transfer at 9:15AM

A Funeral Mass will follow at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, in Uniontown, PA. at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Fr. Ronald Simboli as Celebrant.

Interment will follow at Mount Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA., where Military Honors will be accorded by the AMVETS Post 103.
