Elaine T. Nesser died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 of natural causes at the age of 86 in UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, surrounded by her nieces and nephews.
Born in Uniontown to the late James and Ida Nesser, Elaine had resided in Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia, before retiring to Pittsburgh. Known to her many relations as "Aunt E," Elaine was a career woman, cultural enthusiast, voracious reader and traveler with a keen interest in sports. Her stamina, independent views and wit were unforgettable traits and the centerpiece of family gatherings.
She attended Saint John's High School and graduated from Mt. Mercy College (Carlow University). Elaine's career was in laboratory research at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital and, principally, Philadelphia's Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals.
In retirement, she at one time served as a deputy Allegheny County coroner. A devout Catholic and former associate member of the Religious Sisters of Mercy, Elaine believed "omniavincitamor," love conquers everything.
Miss Nesser was predeceased by her twin, Eleanor Morrison; brothers James "Lash" and Malcolm; and other sisters Naomi McGarvey, Elizabeth "Libby" John and Helen DuFour. Survived by an extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins, Elaine, Aunt E, will be remembered always.
The family will receive friends at the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, on Saturday, May 4, from 11:30 until 12:30 p.m.
The Divine Liturgy will follow at 1 p.m. in Saint George Maronite Catholic Church, 1 Lebanon Terrace, Uniontown, PA 15401. with Rev. Father Nadim Helou, MLM as Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
