Edward F. Skocik, age 88 of Uniontown, Pa, passed away on Tuesday November 22, 2011.
He was born on February 14, 1923 in Wyano, PA, son of Andrew and Kathryn (Anthony) Skocik, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Irene J. (Sroka) Skocik, brothers Andrew Skocik and John Skocik, sisters Mary Balchak, Anne Skocik, Kathryn Skovran and Veronica Gebe. Edward was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, James Skocik, Nancy Miller, Cindy Skocik and Son in Law David Burton, grandchildren Paul Miller, Alex Burton and Julia Burton,
many nieces and nephews, and many caring and supportive friends and neighbors.
Edward was a member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, Knights of Columbus Council 1275, American Legion Post 51 and the VFW. He was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Edward graduated in 1940 from the former Georges Township High School, and served his country with the United States Navy in WWII in the South Pacific. He cofounded Gebe & Skocik Tire Service in 1947 and enjoyed supporting his customers until he retired in 1995 at the age of 72. He enjoyed playing senior citizen softball to the age of 78.
Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc. 603 North Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, Pa. on Friday November 25, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and Saturday, until 10:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, at 11 AM with Rev. Fr. Stephen R. Bugay as Celebrant.
A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 PM on Friday, November 25, 2011.
Interment will follow at St. Mary (Nativity) Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa., where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post # 51 and the VFW of Uniontown.
