Edward Cossick, 91, of Hopwood, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, with his loving family at his side. He was born on April 2, 1935, in Uniontown, a son of the late James and Mary Cossick.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his dearly loved wife, Shirley; his daughter, Tina; his brothers, John (“Pooch”) and Tom; and his sisters, Marge, Evelyn, and Elsie.

Ed was a graduate of Dunbar Township High School and California State College. He proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps with the 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force, as a fire direction controller and mortarman from 1953 to 1956. Following his military service, Ed became a longtime metal and industrial arts teacher and football coach in the Laurel Highlands School District.

Family, friends, and the great outdoors meant everything to Ed. For 65 years, he was a loving and devoted husband to his best friend, Shirley. Together, they loved to travel, spend time with family, attend church, and watch baseball games at the ballpark. He treasured making memories, teaching, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and friends. He loved sharing his passion for the outdoors, whether fishing on the river with his sons, his brother Tom, and friends, or embarking on deer hunting adventures and lively grouse competitions that always left him with a big smile.

Anyone could stop by the Cossick home at any time and spend hours reminiscing with Ed on the back porch about shared adventures. Whether discussing hunting, fishing, geocaching, golfing, or growing up around Uniontown, he never missed the opportunity to slip a joke or two into every story. If you weren’t visiting on the back porch, chances were you’d find him in his garage, which housed every tool imaginable. And if Ed didn’t have the exact tool needed, he always had a clever alternative that would work just as well.

Ed’s greatest legacy was not only in the lessons he taught in the classroom or on the football field, but in the kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering love he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Ed was deeply loved by many and will be missed dearly by his family. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Tim Cossick of Florida; Tracy Winter and her husband, Erick Asmussen, of Tennessee; and Todd Cossick and his wife, Dana, of North Carolina; his three grandchildren, Taylor, Tom, and Reece; his brother Bruce and his wife Pat; and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Edward was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to his special caregivers from Amedisys, especially Wendell and Martha, for their compassionate care.

Panachida Service: Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 9:15 AM at Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home.

Funeral Liturgy: Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 185 E. Main St., Uniontown, PA 15401.

Interment: St. John Byzantine Cemetery, Hopwood, PA.
