IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy
Jellick
November 4, 1929 – August 15, 2024
Dorothy was a lifelong learner and one to push the boundaries. She was a pioneer, always proud she and her sister Mary bought a car and learned to drive when only men drove.
From teaching herself about stock investing to reading about the cosmos from Carl Sagan, she was continually learning. She was a history buff, reading and acquiring information about anything from Native Americans to ancient cultures and always visiting historical sites while on vacation.
A Newsweek and Time magazine subscriber, she sought to always stay up with current global events. She also kept up with pen pals from England and Australia for 40 years.
An avid reader, one of her favorite books, Chesapeake by James Michener, led to annual visits to St. Michaels, Easton, Kent Island and Annapolis. These visits are continued by her family to this day.
Always a traveler to Virginia Beach and Myrtle Beach, she enjoyed the change of scenery but still enjoyed finding covered bridges and being in the local mountains. She loved summer boating at Deep Creek Lake and the lakefront dining at Uno's.
A huge believer of household budgeting, she knew where every dollar went. She enjoyed lunches with her sister Elaine and friends, sometimes taking in a movie after. She looked forward to seeing and talking to her brother Rich which always left her happy. She believed her longevity was due to years of nightly walking with her friend Mabel and dog Peppy.
A fierce proponent of putting family first, she often said, "a husband needs to be pushed by a strong wife", and that she was, guiding the family and constantly pushing all of us to be the best we could be.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents George and Helen Pollock, her husband Matt Jellick, sister Mary Ratulowsky, brothers George and Larry Pollock as well as many beloved Pollock, Stronko, Pompura, Jellick and Sefko relatives. Left to treasure her memory are her sons, Matt (Debbie) Jellick and Ron (Lisa) Jellick, granddaughters Cassie Jellick, Alicia (Mike) Smitley, Rosemary Jellick and Aleeya Jellick, grandson Gaidge Jellick, great granddaughters Ara and Vivi Gulino, brother Richard Pollock, sister Elaine Pulig and niece Tara Pulig.
