Dorothy M. (Vitti) Georgiana

After 37 years, Dorothy M. (Vitti) Georgiana has been joyfully reunited into the strong and loving arms of her husband, Frank D. Georgiana Sr. The Lord Jesus Christ stands nearby welcoming her into His Kingdom.

Dorothy passed peacefully at home, where she wanted to be, in her sleep in the early morning hours on June 29, 2012. The Lord blessed her family by giving Dorothy seven more years of her life with them, after her initial illness and battle with breast cancer.

Dorothy was a Catholic, and a faithful member of the congregation of the St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown, PA.

She was born on May 9, 1923 in Uniontown, PA, daughter of John and Louise (Viglietti) Vitti. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Frank D. Georgiana Sr. in 1975. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Theodore and Albert Vitti, and sisters, Elizabeth (Vitti) Delligatti, Ora (Vitti) Grasse and Anna Belle (Vitti) Rice;

father and mother-in-law, Salvatore and Lucia (Santore) Georgiana; her brother-in-laws, Anthony, Joseph, Orlando, Rudolph, and Samuel Georgiana; her sister-in-laws Laura and Marie Georgiana, and Rose Georgiana, who died as an infant.

She is survived by her son, Frank D. Georgiana Jr., at home; daughter, Donna M. (Georgiana) Hucik and husband, Ronald of Uniontown; sister, Julia (Vitti) Hayden of Hopwood, PA, sister-in-laws, Elizabeth (Kozel) Vitti of Uniontown, PA and Cecilia (Kozak) Vitti of Philadelphia, PA, brother-in-law John Georgiana and wife Angela (Poli) Georgiana, sister-in-laws Anna Marie (Poli) Georgiana of Uniontown and Nancy (Georgiana) Terravecchia of New Salem, PA. She is also survived by many beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, great, great nephews and nieces along with many friends.

She was a graduate of South Union High School, Class of 1941.

Known as "Ging" to her loving family and "Aunt Dorothy" to her neighborhood, she retired from the Laurel Highlands School District in 1983. She loved to cook and make arts and crafts, giving both her food and crafts away freely to anyone. She was a proud and dignified lady, pleasant to be around and showing humility, love, and kindness to all. She loved children, sitting for many in the neighborhood and for family members. She was a volunteer caregiver for many years for a young boy who lived in the neighborhood who had muscular dystrophy. She was a pacifist by nature; always seeking peace and looking for the good in all people. She never held a grudge against anyone; always forgiving. She had a "big heart" and a beautiful smile. She was a loving and good-natured person, and the best mother ever.

She enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates on TV, and read newspapers and worked crossword puzzles on a daily basis. She was a learned individual.

As a breast cancer survivor, she showed emotional and physical strength, never becoming emotionally depressed, or physically weak while undergoing chemotherapy or the cancer surgery. She was a real "trooper" as she defeated cancer.

For the last seven years of her life, she maintained a bright outlook and an indefatigable determination to walk again. She remained positive and cheerful to the very end. She greeted each of her aides, caregivers, nurses, priests, chaplains, physicians, and health assistants with a huge smile. She engaged each with friendly conversation during their work shifts at her home. All of them became extended members of her loving family. She gratefully acknowledged their help, love, and compassion saying to each one as they left her home for the day, "Thank you and I love you."

Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Thursday, July 5, from 7-9 p.m.; Friday, July 6, from 1-9 p.m.; and Saturday, July 7, until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill St., Uniontown, PA, with Msgr. Michael W. Matusak as Celebrant.

Interment will be held at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, PA.

The Parish Wake Service will be held on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
