Obituary

Dorothy Gruber, 80 of Masontown, Pa., died on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at her home. She was born on January 25, 1937 in New Salem, Pa., daughter of the late John and Mary (Krupinsky) Berdar. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank Gruber who died in January 2005; brothers, George, John, Frank, Charles, and Michael Berdar, and sisters, Anne Keller, Helen Berdar, Margaret Berdar.

Dorothy was a graduate of Uniontown High School Class of 1955, and attended St. Francis of Assisi Parish over the years. For over 25 years she was employed in the Deli with Vignali's Foodland of Masontown. Dorothy was a member of the Pal's Social Club Auxiliary, American Legion Post 423 Auxiliary, Fairbank Bowling League, and active as a Democratic Central Committee Woman for several years. She was an avid Steeler fan, bowler and bingo player, and loved trips to the seashore. She was a great wife and mom, and the best baker in the world.

Surviving are her children, Donald Gruber and wife Gina of Masontown, Pa., Frank Gruber, Jr. and wife Marilyn of Greensburg, Pa., and Paula Volansky and husband Jerry of Masontown, Pa.; grandchildren, Katrina Pavone and husband Dan Moser, Gabrielle Bokat and husband John, Megan Gruber, Corey Gruber, and Jesse Gruber, Ashley Sarver, Joe Hixson, Troy Volansky and wife Alexa, and Summer Volansky; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Frank Berdar and wife Barb, Harry Berdar and wife Maxine, sisters, Marie Morgan and husband Ed, and Barbara Lovis and husband John; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 515 N. Main St., Masontown, PA, on Thursday, March 2, from 2-8 p.m.; and on Friday, March 3, until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Masontown, Pa., with Rev. Father William G. Berkey as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Republic, Pa.

The Pals Social Club will hold services on Thursday evening at 6 p.m., followed by the SOCC Rosary.
