Doris Ann (Savage) Mihalko, 89, of Uniontown, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown. She was born February 9, 1927, in Uniontown, PA daughter of the late Earl and Emma (Stets) Savage.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Mihalko on October 29, 1976; son-in-law, Donald Kenneth Dowling Jr.; grandson, Donald Kenneth Dowling III; and great-grandson, Elijah James Mihalko.
Doris was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, Uniontown. In retirement, she spent Fridays making Pirohi for the Church.
She was a graduate of North Union High School, Class of 1944, and was very active on the Reunion Committee. After raising her children, Doris attended Fayette County Vocational and Technical School, graduating from their LPN program. After receiving her license, she worked as an LPN at Mt. Macrina Manor until her retirement.
Doris took great pride in her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. Sunday evenings, surrounded by her family, was always spent watching television. Doris will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory, are seven children, Dana Tomcanin and her husband William, Mark Mihalko, Karen Williams and her husband Ben, Debra Mihalko, Paul Mihalko and his wife Amy, James Mihalko, and David Mihalko and his wife Kathy. Seventeen grandchildren, Mark Mihalko and his wife Brenda, Jennifer Dowling and her spouse Jamie Strange, Rob Tomcanin and his wife Laurie, Danielle Mihalko, Paul Mihalko, Jr. and his wife Casey, Krissy Venzen and her husband Oswain, Amanda Mihalko and her spouse Susie Barnes, Renee Herrmann and her husband Joe, Jason Dowling, Jonathan Dowling and his wife Pam, Ben Mihalko and his wife Joanne, Matt Mihalko, Brittany Mihalko and her fianc Justin Bozak, David Mihalko,Jr., Daniel Mihalko, Tim Mihalko, and Rebecca Mihalko. Thirteen great-grandchildren, Genesis Mihalko, Jillian Mihalko, Jolene Mihalko, Markie Mihalko, Jeremiah Tomcanin, Emma Mihalko, Lucas Mihalko, Allie Mihalko, Joseph Mihalko, Michael Herrmann, Olivia Venzen, Sebastian Mihalko- Barnes, and Noah Mihalko. Also surviving are two brothers, Earl John Savage and James Edward Savage and his wife Karen and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Monday, February 6, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the Parastas Service at 7 p.m.
Visitation will continue on Tuesday, February 7, until 10:30 a.m. when the Panachida Service will be held. Divine Liturgy with Christian Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 185 E. Main St., Uniontown, PA, at 11 a.m. with Very Rev. Father Ronald P. Larko as Celebrant. Interment will be held in St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hopwood, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made in Doris' memory to St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church or your favorite charity.
