Obituary

Mr. David A. Hoff, 64, of West Newton, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Jefferson Hospital.

He was born in Uniontown on January 21, 1961 to Dorothy Young Hoff and the late William Hoff, II.

David graduated from Laurel Highlands High School, class of 1979, and attended the Fayette County Area Vocational Technical School in the machine shop program.  He then obtained an associate's degree from Westmoreland Community College.

He worked as an electronics technician for Bombardier, and part of his job was to help construct the people mover at the old airport. When he was home, he would build his own devices. He enjoyed repurposing flea market finds into his own kind of art.

The Lord brought Laura Schumm into David's life in 2012. They hit it off immediately and got engaged on Christmas Eve. David married Laura Schumm on July 12, 2013. They were each other's best friend, and they enjoyed watching the Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins play. They enjoyed road trips and going to flea markets and garage sales and watching their dachshunds play.

David was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and attended Calvary Lutheran Church in Murrysville. Although reluctant at first, David joined Laura and helped to lead the singing at the Saturday evening worship service. His faith sustained him through several health issues, including a liver transplant.

David is survived by his loving wife Laura of West Newton; mother, Dorothy Hoff of Uniontown; three siblings, William Hoff, III and wife Michele of Perryopolis, Daniel Hoff and wife Gina of Uniontown, and TJ Hoff of Hopwood; nephews, William Hoff, IV and wife Megan, Mason Hoff, Parker Hoff and Elijah Hoff; great niece and nephew, Levi and Allison; Daniel and Susan Schumm of Carmel, IN; Stephan and Deboral Schumm of Green Bay, WI; Karen Schumm of Yorkville, IL, and Paul and Kathy Stanis of Somerset, PA.

A memorial service will be held on January 3, 2026 at 11 AM at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 4725 Old William Penn Hwy, Murrysville, PA 15668.

Memorial contributions can be made to Calvary Early Learning Center, 4725 Old William Penn Hwy., Murrysville, PA 15668 or to C.O.R.E., 204 Sigma Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.
