Daniel J. Lukotch Sr., 92 of Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2017.

He was born on May 6, 1925, a son of the late Frank P. and Mary E. (Saltrick) Lukotch.

Daniel was very devout in his faith and a long time member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church.

Daniel was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who treasured his family above all else. He will be remembered as a dedicated friend, educator and World War II Veteran.

As a young man Daniel served in the 35th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in World War II. He served in four campaigns in the European Theater receiving decorations and citations including a Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Medal, two Bronze Stars, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars and WWII Victory Medal.

Following his honorable discharge from the armed forces, Daniel entered Waynesburg College where he received his Bachelor degree in education. Daniel attended graduate school at West Virginia, Duke and Penn State universities. He was a teacher at North Union High School from 1951-1966 and served as a Vice Principal from 1966-1969 and Principal from 1966-1988 at Laurel Highlands Senior High School. Daniel loved his job and spoke highly of the many special colleagues and students he met in his career.

Daniel was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Dolores F. Lukotch, by siblings and their spouses: Helen and Tom Marshall, Margaret Lukotch, Hazel and Pat Pallini, Gertrude and Galen Stine, Frank and Pauline Lukotch, Charles and Vi Lukotch, Richard and Jeanette Lukotch, Maryanne and Dick Barnhart, Agatha and George Petro, and by nephews: Fred Pallini and Richard Barnhart.

Left to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses: Daniel and Colleen Lukotch, Doreen and James Detweiler, and Donna and David Moses, grandchildren who he adored, Maria and Amy Detweiler, Daniel Lukotch III and Jonathan Moses. He is also survived by his sister Magdalen (Lukotch) Haas and her husband Charles of Tucson, Arizona and sister-in-law Irene Ferrell Doljac of Olathe, Kansas and many special nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, Friday June 23, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., and on Saturday June 24, 2017 until 9:30 a.m. when prayers of transfer will be said.

A Mass of Christian burial will follow in St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Fr. Peter L. Peretti as Celebrant.

The Parish wake service led by the Lazarus Ministry will be held on Friday at 3 p.m.

Interment will follow in Mount Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA where Military Honors will be accorded by the AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood.
