Daniel A. Costabile, age 66, of Uniontown, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Born on January 28, 1945 in Uniontown, PA, he was the son of the late Antonio and Lucia Costabile. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, John Stanley Piwowar, II.

Dan was a 1963 graduate of Uniontown High School. After earning his welding certificate at Fayette Welding School, he was employed as a welder for ten years at Steel Scaffolding and was a member of Shopmens' Local 527. He was retired from the manufacturing business after 16 years, where he was the owner and manager of A & D Sportswear in Uniontown and Cosba Fashions in Connellsville. He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown.

Dan was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dan loved old movies, classic cars and fifties music. He especially loved westerns and shared that love with his grandsons, who provided him with many happy moments and memories. His granddaughters were the sunshine of his life and he loved them very much.

On October 18, 1969, Dan married Sandra Piwowar. Together they celebrated 42 years of marriage with five loving and devoted children with nine beloved grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sandra (Piwowar) Costabile and children: one son, Daniel Costabile and wife Tina; four daughters, Gina Marie Costabile, Amy Beth Costabile and companion Brian Ribniscky, Dana Lynn Opar and husband Bill, and Anna Marie Thomas and husband Bill, all of Uniontown, PA.

Grandchildren: Suzanne Marie Costabile and fianc Michael Zuzak; Steven Anthony & William Colvin Costabile; Elizabeth Danielle & John Anthony Costabile; Christian Michael & Austin Allen Thomas; and Eden Alexandria & Amelia Salim Opar.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Helen F. Chernitsky Piwowar.

He is also survived by two brothers, four sisters, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Albert Gallatin Home Care, Amedisys Hospice, and family friend Nancy King for their wonderful support and compassion.

Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, PA, today, Tuesday, January 17, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.; and on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

A Funeral Mass will follow on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, PA, with Rev. Father Ronald L. Simboli as Celebrant.
