Obituary

Clarence H. Benke, 94 years young was called home to heaven on December 5, 2018 surrounded by his loyal companion and caregiver of more than 30 years, and her family.

He was born on September 13, 1924 in Elkhorn, NE, the son of the late Henry and Alvina Peterson Benke.

Clarence was a Grain Elevator Operator for Cargill Manufacturing for 38 years before retiring in 1986.  He was a member of the United States Army and served during WWII.  He enjoyed telling stories of his Army days and travel before leaving the military in 1943.

Clarence was a very quiet man, reclusive of sorts and never asked for anything except for snacks, a ballgame, a great cup of coffee and conversation.  He was a homebody who loved Judge Judy, Joel Olsteen, the Denver Broncos and horses.

Left to cherish his memory are his companion and caregiver, Gloria Lancaster, her husband Mark and daughter Leigh, as well as the entire Lancaster-Sherrick families.  He will be dearly missed as he departs this life into his next journey.

As per his wishes, there will be no service.  Clarence has asked that in lieu of flowers or gifts, a donation be made to a veteran's organization of your choice on his behalf.

Final resting will take place at the Allegheny Veterans' Cemetery in Washington, PA.

Condolences may be sent to the care of The Lancaster-Sherrick Family, 534 Broadway Street, Masontown, PA  15461.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, Pa. Your personal written tributes and memories are welcomed and encouraged at www.hakyfuneralhome.com .
