C.J. Kormanik, 61, of McClellandtown, PA, went to be with Jesus Christ his Lord And Savior on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. He was born on July 5, 1954 in Uniontown, son of Charles Jr. and Rita Kormanik. His mother preceded him in death.
Left to cherish his memory is his father, Charles Kormanik, Jr.; brothers and sisters, Dr. Susan Geiger and husband Dr. David Geiger, Richard Kormanik and wife Lisa , Bernadette Heckman and husband Jeff, and John Kormanik and wife Annette; nephews, Jon Geiger and wife Lindsey, Jeff Geiger, Christopher Kormanik, Boyd and Nick Heckman; a niece, Chelsea Schrader and Josh Bridge; honorary nieces, Elizabeth Matyus and Catherine Matyus; great nephews, Jedediah and Julian Bridge; cherished friends, Judy and Terry Reckart, Bernie Shimko, Chuck Walters, and Michael "Ham" and Mary Jo Kelecic. He also leaves behind his pet, Aisha.
C.J. was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church in New Salem, where he served as an Altar Boy in his youth, and later as Eucharistic Minister. He devoted his time as the caretaker and maintenance man for his parish for many years.
For 36 years C.J. served as Chief of the Edenborn Volunteer Fire Department, the longest serving department Chief since its inception, which he joined in 1973. He was a member of the SWPA Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs Association, and Fayette County Fireman's Association, the Greek Catholic Union, and Fairbank Rod and Gun Club. He had 41 years of service with Sensus Water Products.
Friends and family will be received at the Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 515 N. Main St., Masontown, PA on Tuesday, September 22, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.; and on Wednesday, September 23, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., when the Panachida Service will be held.
A Divine Liturgy will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Assumption Byzantine Catholic Church, 12 Center St. Ext., New Salem, PA, with Rev. Father Christopher R. Burke as celebrant.
Interment will follow at Mount St. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA.
The Parastas Service will be held on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home.
The Edenborn Fire Department will gather for ritual and honorarium on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
