Antoinette "Nettie" Matthews, 94, went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2019 with her loving family by her side.
She was born April 18, 1924 in Pittsburgh, Pa daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Rolly.
Antoinette operated a daycare for over 25 years and was honored to care for over 240 children in that time. After that, she was a home healthcare aide and hospice aide for Albert Gallatin Visiting Nurses.
She volunteered for many community and church organizations in her lifetime, including: Sunday school teacher, Girl Guards, and soup kitchen at Salvation Army; Fayette County Surplus in the 50's and 60's; Special Needs children, when the YMCA was located in downtown Uniontown; Sunday school teacher, children's church teacher, nursery, and Ladies Guild at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church; Eastern Star Chaplain; Amvets Ladies Auxiliary; Albert Gallatin Hospice Volunteers; Three Rivers Pals Project-Buddies for Aides; Fayette County Youth Commission; and over 65 years with the American Red Cross, first as a Grey Lady and then helping organize volunteers for registration and the canteen at blood drives. She also was on the American Red Cross Disaster Unit, and for a while served as a member of their Board of Directors.
Antoinette was preceded by her loving husband of 59 years Playford Matthews, a son-in-law Steve Andaloro, a granddaughter Tylar Andaloro and sisters Matilda, Betty, and Dolores.
Antoinette will be lovingly missed and remembered by her children, Thomas Matthews (Charlotte); Rebecca Mansberry (Earl); Annette Fabery (Jerry Whitman); Lyn Andaloro (Steve); Suzi Foster (Mark Sr.). Grandchildren, Douglas Matthews (Kim); Mike Fugozzotto (Beth); Jason Fabery (Trisha); Jeremy Fabery (Tricia); Katey Andaloro-Medvitz (Ryan); Heather Andaloro (Matt Spangler); David Matthews (TJ); Mark Jr. Foster (Ricki); Sarah Foster; Sadie Foster. Great Grandchildren, Claira, Caden Matthews; Gian, Darien, Mariana Fugozzotto; Caleb, McKenzie, Luke Fabery; Riley Matthews; Cody and Charlotte Foster. A brother, Lenard Rolly (Roseanne), along with a host of many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, Pa on Tuesday, January 8, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.; and on Wednesday, January 9, until 10:15 a.m. when prayers of transfer will be said.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 71 N. Gallatin Ave., Uniontown, Pa, with Pastor Kevin E. Anderson officiating.
Interment will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Chalk Hill, Pa.
