Anne (Mikluscak) Varndell, age 96, of Uniontown, PA, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2012. For the past 13 years, she had resided with her loving daughter Geraldine.
She was born on January 7, 1916 in Pittsburgh, PA, daughter of the late George and Anna (Ciglar) Mikluscak. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry K. Varndell, Sr. on June 21, 1987; a grandson, Michael Steklasa; a great grandson, Samuel Varndell; four brothers, Anthony, George, John, and Joseph Mikluscak; and a sister, Sr. Borgia Maria.
Anne was a member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, member and Past President of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, member and Past President of the Rosary Altar Society, and member of the Secular Franciscan Order. Anne enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Quilting Community of the United Methodist Church, Evans Manor.
Anne taught CCD classes at St. Mary's School for many years, and served as a Teachers Aid. She volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Store from its opening. She also worked as a baker at Mount St. Macrina, and in earlier years, worked at the Uniontown Holiday Inn, White Swan Hotel Restaurant, and Howard Johnson Restaurant.
Left to cherish her memory are seven children, Geraldine M. "Gerry" Dawson of Uniontown, PA, Kenneth E. Varndell, Sr. and wife Claudette of Richmond, VA, Lawrence W. Varndell and wife Shirley of Stevens City, VA, Mary Ann Milson of Washingtonville, OH, Margaret C. Wilcox and husband Dave of Springville, NY, Rita F. Wolfe and husband Mel of Little River, SC, and Harry K. Varndell and wife Becky of Price, UT; twenty-eight grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great -great grandchildren; four sisters, Agnes Almes of Uniontown, PA, Helen DeCarlo of Gowanda, NY, Margie Nicowski of Washington, DC, and Delores Hickle of Uniontown, PA; a brother, Andy Mikluscak of Bedford, OH; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Friday, March 16, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m.; and on Saturday, March 17, until 10 a.m., when a Blessing Service and Ghinnaz will be held in the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. with Rev. Father Nadim Helou, MLM Officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Mary (Nativity) Cemetery, Uniontown, PA
The Order of Secular Franciscans will hold a Wake Service on Friday,
March 16 at 3:00 PM.
St. George Maronite Church Parish Rosary will be held on Friday at 4 p.m.
