Anna (Ogrodny) Grant, 88, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Cherry Tree Nursing Center. She was born on January 1, 1930, daughter of the late John and Antoinette (Lowisz) Ogrodny.
In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, " love of her life", William Anthony Grant, Sr. Also, by her sisters and brothers, Helen Nedwick, Frances Swartz, Violet Tiberi, Elizabeth Wellington, and Rose Soblotney; Leopold (Pete) Ogrodny, Frank Ogrodny, Joseph Ogrodny, and Alex Ogrodny.
Anna was a member of St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, where for many years she volunteered in the school cafeteria. Earlier in her life she was a member of Church of the Madonna of Czestochowa, Cardale, Pa., and member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.
For forty years, she worked for Gallet Knitting Mills in Uniontown, as well as taking care of her family and her home. She is remembered as a great cook and baker, most famous for her pasta dishes and pies, especially during the holidays, which she loved. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Honey" by her family.
She was a member of the Uniontown Senior Center and enjoyed bingo, arts and crafts and volunteering at their variety store. She also volunteered her time to the Community Action Food Bank whenever possible.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Beverly Grant Jenkins and husband Jerry of Uniontown, William Anthony Grant, Jr. and wife Lisa of Fairbank, and Michelle Grant Shumar and husband James of Uniontown, with whom she made her home for 24 years. Also surviving are her precious grandchildren, Tony Grant, Nicole Grant Spruill, Ty Grant, Nathan Grant, Alyson Grant, Ashley Shumar, and Zachary Shumar; great grandchildren: Bryce Grant, Santino Spruill, Valentino Spruill, and Luca Grant; her sisters, Emily Olesh of Leicester, NC, and Annette Davis of Palmer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, Pa. on Monday, December 17, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.; and Tuesday, December 18, until 9:15 a.m. when prayers of transfer will be said.
The Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, 61 N. Mt. Vernon Ave., Uniontown, Pa.
Entombment will be held at Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum, Brier Hill, Pa.
The Parish Wake Service led by the Lazarus Ministry will be held on Monday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
