Obituary

Andrew John Stepanik, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 96. He was born on March 21, 1929, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, and was a faithful member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown.

Andrew was preceded in death by his loving wife, Katherine M. (Shotter) Stepanik, who passed away on May 2, 2010.

He leaves behind a devoted family who will cherish his memory always: his five children, Gregory A. Stepanik and his wife Sandra; Andrew J. Stepanik, Jr. and his wife Victoria; James A. Stepanik and his wife Denise; Karen M. Stepanik; and Patricia A. (Stepanik) Zimmerman.

He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Shelly Ann (Stepanik) Coberly, Christina (Stepanik) Gabonay, Chad M. Stepanik, Alicia (Zimmerman) Schutz, Jessica Zimmerman, Andrew Stepanik, Teresa (Stepanik) Brown, Sarah (Stepanik) Phillips, and James Stepanik; and by his treasured great-grandchildren, Logan Schutz, Callen Schutz, Emrys Gabonay, Ainsley Coberly, Aiden Coberly, Elowyn Gabonay, Ellory Stepanik, Addison Stepanik, and Raiden Schutz; and Bruce Richard Zimmerman.

Andrew will be remembered most for his kindness, gentle spirit, and deep love for his family. His greatest joy in life was time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—whether at weekend gatherings, family barbecues, hayrides with the grandchildren, or warm holiday visits that filled his heart with happiness.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and later dedicated 20 years of hard work as a steelworker and welder.  Later he served for several years with the Pennsylvania Unemployment Office.  He was also the author of the children's book Swooshy, The Christmas Squirrel, a reflection of his warmth, imagination, and love for sharing joy with others.

Andrew's life was one of quiet strength, devotion, and enduring love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
