Andrew M. Shaffer, age 88 of Uniontown, Pa., passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017 at Peroni Personal Care Home, Uniontown.
Andrew was born April 17, 1929 in Oliver, Pa., son of the late John and Mary (Markusic) Shaffer, who resided in Messmore, Pa.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Gertrude M. "Gertie" Franckowiak Shaffer, brothers, Michael, Thomas, and Joseph, his sister, Agnes Takish, and infant sisters, Dorothy and JoAnn Shaffer.
Surviving is his sister, Anna Marie "Toots" Janosik, of Shoaf, Pa., a brother John Shaffer of McClellandtown, Pa., sister-in-law, Janet Shaffer of Latrobe, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Andy was a faithful member of Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown, Pa. He retired from United States Steel Corp., Clairton Works after 25 years. During WWII, he proudly served his country with the United States Navy and received the Victory Medal. He also served in the United States Army.
He was a life member of Hutchinson Sportsmen's Club, and loved to fish and hunt. An avid golfer, he had been a member of Springdale Senior Golf League for 25 years.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Tony Peroni and his staff for their wonderful care. Andy looked upon them as an extension of his family. We also thank Amedisys Hospice for their care and compassion.
Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, Pa. on Monday, November 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.; and on Tuesday, November 7, until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
The Funeral Mass will follow on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Rd., Uniontown, Pa.
Interment will be held at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa., where military honors will be accorded by George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
