Obituary

Andrew Paul "Andy" Kubitza, Sr., age 84, of Smithfield, PA, died suddenly on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at his home in Smithfield. He was born on May 13, 1927, son of Steven and Elizabeth (Shuman) Kubitza.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Mary Shiner, Caroline Yasechko, and brothers, Steve and Edward Kubitza.

Andy was a member of Saints Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, PA, and had served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584, member of Hutchinson Sportsman's Club, Hopwood, PA, and a member of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Dept.

Andy was an avid gardener, and a wonderful husband father, he will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

He was a coal miner for 43 years, retired from United States Steel Corp, Robena Mine, Local Union #6321, and was a member of UMWA District 2.

Left to cherish his memory is, his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Jane (Stronko) Kubitza; their children, Sandy Balash of Masontown, PA; Andrew P. Kubitza, Jr. of Uniontown, PA; Jerome M. Kubitza of Smithfield, PA; Brian S. Kubitza of Uniontown, PA; and Lori Beth Miller and husband George Of Martinsburg, WV; grandchildren, Kristen Poston and husband Ed; Karie Balash, Katelyn Kubitza, Matt Thompson, Adam Thompson, Andrew "Drew" Kubitza, Michael Kubitza, Brooke Miller, and Brynn Miller; great-grandchildren, James Balash, Breona Balash, and Luke Kalivoda; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Friends will be received in the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, PA, on Thursday, October 20, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.; and on Friday, October 21, until 10:30 a.m., when Prayers of Transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will follow on Friday at 11 a.m. in Sts. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, PA, with Rev. Father Andrew M. Kawecki as Celebrant.

Interment will be held at Mount Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA, where military honors will be accorded by Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584.

The Parish Wake Service will be held on Thursday evening at 8:45 p.m.
