Dr. Albert N. Skomra, 81, of Uniontown, Pa., died on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 13, 1935 in Orient, Pa, son of the late Louis and Tekla (Hensh) Skomra.

Surviving are, his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret "Marg" (Reilly) Skomra; their children, Sue Quinn, Phil Skomra, Ann Kuskowski, and Margaret "Meg" McDaniel and husband Ted; 11 grandchildren, Sean, Chris, Brandon, Samantha, and Patrick Quinn, Andrew and Rachel Skomra, Emily and Matthew Kuskowski, Ben and Grace McDaniel; and a great grandson Oliver Quinn; his sister, Dolores "Dee" Kazmierczak and husband Richard; and brothers-in-law, Dr. Phillip E. Reilly, M.D., and Tom Reilly and wife Nan; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Dr. Skomra earned his Bachelor's Degree in Economics and English at St. Vincent College in 1958, and pursued his post graduate studies in Education at Waynesburg College. He received his Masters Degree at West Virginia University in Administration/English in 1962, post graduate studies at California College, and Doctorate of Curriculum and Instruction/English from West Virginia University in 1975.

He began his early teaching career at St. Joseph and St. John Elementary schools; then Mary Fuller Frazier High School, before joining the Penn State Fayette Campus family in 1966. His teaching background as an educator centered upon English Composition, English and American Literature, Humanities, and Poetry Workshops, and often Consultative work for Gifted Programs. He served as Administrative Assistant of Academic Affairs, Chairman of Extended Degrees, and Academic Advisory for Liberal Arts. He also served as an acting CEO for Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, and was the CEO for the Penn State Beaver Campus and Shenango Campus. Over the years he authored and contributed to many literary publications, journals and books.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown, Pa., National Council Teachers of English, Northeast Modern Language Association, Pennsylvania Council Teachers of English, Pennsylvania Folklore Society, and Coal Miners Research Association.

He enjoyed tennis and jogging, and loved spending time with his family and many, many friends. His deep and abiding faith and compassion for others will always be remembered.

Friends will be received at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, Inc., 603 N. Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, Pa. today (Monday) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and Wednesday, March 1, until 9:15 a.m. when prayers of transfer will be said.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, (Rev. Father James D. Tringhese, Pastor) Uniontown, Pa., at 10 a.m., with cousins, Rev. Father Al Pleban and Rev. Father Leo Pleban.

Interment will follow at Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.

In his memory, contributions may be made to Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, and The Coal and Coke Heritage Museum.
