Albert J. Ferens, 85, of Dunbar, passed away on March 20, 2024, at home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 26, 1938, the son of the late Frank and Mary (Vansil) Ferens.
Albert was a graduate of the former Dunbar Township High School. He was married to his high school sweetheart, the late Margaret (Henderson) Ferens for 60 years. He was an owner and operator, along with his wife Margaret, of Ferens Farms LLC. Albert had a love for farming. Throughout his career in agriculture, Albert won many awards. Starting from the time he was in high school he served as president of the Dunbar FFA Chapter. He then went on to win the Conservation Farmer of the year award, numerous 5 Acre Corn Club Awards, and the 2001 Master Farmer Award. He also was a trustee and lifelong member of St. Stephens Byzantine Catholic Church of Leisenring, PA.
Albert is survived by his three children, Patty Holchin, Pam Wolfe and husband Glenn all of Dunbar, and Mike Ferens and wife Carol of Houston, PA. He was Grandpap to the following grandchildren Bill Holchin (Logan), Jennifer Poole (Eric), Chrissy Holchin (Virgil), Corey Ferens, and Jessica Wolfe, and great grandchildren Jacob, Taylor, Breann, Audrey, Landon, Nola, Zayne, Cutler, Kalani, and fur baby, Pippa.
In addition to his parents and wife Margaret, Albert was predeceased by his siblings Frank Ferens, George Ferens, infant sister Anna Mae, Bertha Muchnok and son-in-law Bill Holchin.
The family would like to give a special thanks to caregiver Karen, Amedisys Home Health, and Dr. Gina Canada for all of their wonderful care.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, March 24 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Stephen R. Haky Funeral Home, 603 N. Gallatin Ave. Ext., Uniontown, PA 15401, where a Panachida Service will be held Monday, March 25 at 10:15 AM, followed by the Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 AM, at St. Stephens Byzantine Catholic Church, 3120 W. Crawford Ave., Leisenring, PA 15425, with Father Jerome G. Botsko as celebrant. A committal service and interment will follow at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, PA.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to be made to your local FFA Chapter in memory of Albert J. Ferens. FFA, Attn: Susan Benning, 175 Georges Fairchance Rd., Uniontown, PA 15401.
